"RRRASOC presents: Novi Household Hazardous Waste Removal Day" was an ad promoting an event held annually in Novi. The ad was created by interns at SWOCC Studios to cover RRASOC's relocation of the event to Power Park on October 9th of 2010. The ad was added to Novi 13's channel server around September 9th of 2010, so as to allow the ad to run for a full month.
A cup gets crunched and then thrown into a trash can. Next, a sunflower seed bag gets crunched up and added. Asa the sound effects repeat over and over, various still pictures dissolve into each other showing a constant pileup of household trash.
Text on screen and an announcer point out to viewers that "ordinary trash" is one thing. However, whatever to do about hazardous wastes that don't belong in the regular trash?
For that, RRRASOC in Novi was hosting the Novi Hazardous Waste Removal Day event. In 2010, it got moved from its normal location and time to October 9th in Power Park, right behind the Novi Civic Center.
A long series of stock footage clips played over flash-bang dissolves through white, while noisy special effects advertised the event like an aggressive car commercial.
- Fire crackers
- Any other incendiaries or explosives
- Radioactive wastes
- Biohazardous wastes
- Latex paint
Most of the piece consisted of editing, with stock footage from a 2007 event being recycled to indicate the 2010 event in a nutshell. Noisy narration spelled out painfully to the audience that the event would be held a different day and location from where it normally was held, so that everyone in Novi had a chance to have it spelled out to them that it'd be October 9th that the event was held.
The cup and bag crushing effects as well as the trash can and first few trash bag shots were actually shot and recorded as original footage in SWOCC's building, with the latter shots being taken in the hallway right outside of Studio A. The dumpster shot was a few-seconds' worth of still video of the dumpster for 35325 Drakeshire Lane, part of Drakeshire Apartments.
Music was a stock sound clip from the KillaTrax library to which SWOCC had a license.
Due to the lack of available information on RRRASOC funding, figures below are rough estimates made on assumptions. Low costs mean not much chance of city hall receiving many complaints.
